Mrs. Mara Hates Me

Celia’s mom really hates my guts. I’ve been friends with Celia since kindergarten, so when I messed up last year– the only year–you would think her mom could forgive me. I screwed up. But hey! We all make mistakes. Knowing she judges me is really making life hard. Now, I’m changing, and she won’t see me improving.

I read this in a magazine: “The parents of teenagers’ friends can have as much effect on teens’ decisions about substance use as their own parents, a new study suggests.”

Maybe part of the change I’m going through is due to wanting to be Celia’s friend again and valuing her mother’s good opinion of me. Jerry’s not my motivation to change this year because he hooked up with my friend Tina. That’s kind of what pushed me off the edge again. All that’s making me want to get off Vicodin and stay off alcohol is the idea of being friends with Celia. I could do this more easily if I had my friend back! I feel so alone.
